Make a tender, flavorful slow cooker turkey breast with minimal effort. This hands-off recipe ensures moist white meat perfect for weeknight dinners or small holiday gatherings, freeing up your oven space.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bone-in or boneless turkey breast (35 lbs)
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Pat the turkey breast dry with paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the salt, pepper, thyme, sage, and garlic powder to create the herb rub.
  3. Rub the olive oil all over the turkey breast. Then, evenly coat the entire surface with the herb rub mixture.
  4. Pour the chicken broth or water into the bottom of your slow cooker.
  5. Place the seasoned turkey breast skin-side up in the slow cooker.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours, or on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours. Cooking time depends on the size and whether it is bone-in or boneless. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness.
  7. The turkey is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Carefully remove the turkey breast from the slow cooker and let it rest on a cutting board, loosely tented with foil, for 15 minutes before slicing.
  9. Slice against the grain and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add 1 chopped onion and 2 minced garlic cloves around the turkey in the slow cooker.
  • If you want to make gravy, remove the liquid from the slow cooker after the turkey rests, skim off excess fat, and use the remaining liquid as a base for your gravy.
  • This recipe works well for a simple turkey dinner idea when you need hands off turkey recipe.
