Make this crowd-pleasing, cold clam dip using a cream cheese base. It is tangy, savory, and ready in minutes, making it the best party dip for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (10 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (6.5 ounce) can minced clams, drained well
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives or green onion tops for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place the softened cream cheese in a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Add the drained minced clams, sour cream, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper to the bowl.
  3. Use a hand mixer or a sturdy spoon to combine all ingredients until the dip is smooth and fully incorporated. Do not overmix.
  4. Taste the dip and adjust seasonings if needed.
  5. Cover the bowl and chill the clam dip in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to blend.
  6. Garnish with chopped chives or green onion tops, if using, just before serving.
  7. Serve your homemade clam dip cold with potato chips, sturdy crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • Drain the canned clams thoroughly; excess liquid will make your dip watery. Press the clams between paper towels for best results.
  • For a tangier appetizer, substitute half of the sour cream with plain Greek yogurt.
  • This make ahead appetizer tastes best when chilled for one hour, but you can prepare it up to 24 hours in advance.
