Make this classic, citrus-forward cocktail that balances sweet and tart flavors perfectly. This easy martini recipe uses vodka and fresh lemon juice, finished with an elegant sugar rim.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz Vodka (or Citron Vodka)
  • 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 0.75 oz Simple Syrup (homemade recommended)
  • Lemon peel or wheel for garnish
  • Granulated sugar for rimming

Instructions

  1. Prepare your martini glass by chilling it in the freezer for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Create the sugar rim: Run a lemon wedge around the outer rim of the chilled glass. Dip the rim into a shallow plate of granulated sugar. Set the glass aside.
  3. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the vodka, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup.
  4. Seal the shaker and shake hard until the outside of the shaker is very cold, about 15 to 20 seconds.
  5. Strain the mixture into your prepared, sugar-rimmed martini glass.
  6. Garnish with a thin lemon twist or wheel before serving immediately.

Notes

  • For the best flavor, make your own simple syrup by heating equal parts water and sugar until the sugar dissolves, then cool completely.
  • If you prefer a slightly less tart drink, increase the simple syrup to 1 oz and reduce the lemon juice slightly.
  • This recipe is ideal for happy hour drinks and party drinks vodka selections.
